Candling Class Complete and a Few Other Things...

Well, I went down to Macon to take the candling class and I passed! It was easy and kinda nice to candle 100 eggs and see the different grades and understand why the are graded a certain way. Should get my licence in the mail shortly and I'll be official.

I finally talked to Deputy Commissioner Terry Coleman from the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture. I contacted him to talk about any new regulations Georgia will impose on chicken processing on 20,000 birds or less. We will be setting up a meeting to discuss what will be regulated and any new laws that are imposed. Hopefully it won't go above and beyond the federal regulations.

Also in the news, we are planning our first board meeting. Exciting! This will certainly help to focus our efforts on individual responsibilities and team goals.

The fall garden is coming up good. The rain lately has helped with the germination of spinach and mixed greens. The broccoli is doing great, almost ready to start getting buds. Our eggplants are still producing enormous amounts of fruit. Almost tired of eating it. Peppers are doing great. Still have a ton of peppers on the plants that I have to harvest.

As far as the chickens, well we are on first egg watch. Should be any day now. I can't wait. They have established the pecking order and our Buff's came out on the short end of the stick. Poor things get pecked every time I bring some scratch out. It ends up being a chicken on chicken crime. East yard vs West yard, etc...............
