Finally finished speech and some other stuff...

Well, finally pushed my lethargic brain enough to finish the speech to the Coweta County Board of Commissioners. These guys are going to decide the fate of our farm. This could be a great thing for us and also any farmers coming behind us trying to start off with smaller acreage. If passed as recommended by the Planning and Zoning dept, it will allow farmers start up with minimum costs on the improvement side and will exempt us from landscaping and road requirement issues (or at least to a minimum).

In the process of writing my speech, I came across some very good research that pushes organic farming much higher on the nutrient chart than I had originally thought. So I'll put it in bullet point form for you all:

  • Vitamins and antioxidant levels in organically grown vegetables is 25% higher on average (Dr. Charles Benbrook)

  • Pastured chicken eggs have: (Mother Earth News compared to factory feed chickens)
    o 6 times more vitamin D
o 7 times more Beta Carotene
    o 2/3 more vitamin A
    o 3 times more vitamin E
    o 2 times more Omega-3 fatty acids
    o 1/3 less cholesterol
    o ¼ less saturated fat
  • Pasture raise chicken meat has: (from SARE)
    o 21% less fat
    o 30% less saturated fat
    o 50% more vitamin A
